Fishman used a brand new electronic drum machine on this night
(McGrupp's), but not in this YEM. Trey introduced the machine by
saying that Fish learned a new song on it, and that the person who
could name the song would win a special prize. Fish played the tune
you hear right before the start of a horse race, and Greg Ehle yelled
out "And they're off!". Greg was disappointed to learn that his
"special prize" was a date with Fishman. The show was apparently not
well attended, because no alcohol was served.

YEM opens up typically. Trey isn't very clean in the opening,
though. If I played guitar, I bet this intro would be difficult to
play. ;) "Nirvana" at 1:42... yawn. This opening isn't all that
tight.

"Boy" at 5:21 after an ok scream. Trey giggles after saying "Shit."
Wash Uffizi Drive Me To Firenzi segment is amusing.. nothing too
exciting. But the *small* crowd is enjoying it, as is the band!
Tramps segment at 7:36, only there aren't any tramps yet. Page starts
soloing, but Mike accompanies him (Trey is dead silent..). Fish is
still cranking out the groove, accompanying well as usual! Good keys
work from Page..

Trey comes in at 8:37 rhythmically chording along.. Page plays a bit
of piano over organ chords. Niiiiice! I wish he did this more
often. :-) Trey starts soloing at 9:14, assisting with the strong
close to the "tramps jam" or "Page solo" segment.

Jam segment at 9:33.. Trey just takes off noodling around. Good
upbeat feel to this YEM.. great stuff from Mike in particular!! Nice
jam segment, but nothun special, even for an early version.

B&D at 12:41. Cut in this copy to side B.. don't know what the
correct timing on the B&D segment is. What B&D there is on this
tape isn't that impressive.

13:10 (or so) closing WUDMTF segment.. and vocal jam. Lots of echo
effect during the vocal jam. Like too much. Wilson starts up at
14:49 -> out of this echo-fog, which fortunately didn't last very
long. Not much of a vocal jam, frankly. C rating.

two cents
