The Rave at Central Park, Milwaukee, WI
May 1, 1992

Which one was better, you may ask? We don't even know ourselves, and we have
listened to both shows again already. The Rave was not as cool a venue, so
thats the only real difference.
Knife is a really cool new tune! Very spooky. Sloth rocked. Chris
had a "Sloth Xing" sticker on his lightboard. Divided Sky was really
beautiful. It's Ice and Horn were both very good, and yet again, firsts for
us. OK, the "Thingy" that Fish played in I Didn't Know was, we believe, the
mouthpiece to his busted bagpipes! Trey was laughing so had that he alsmost
couldn't sing when Fish stopped. The thingy made a bizarre buzzing noise,
not unlike that of a bagpipe or an oboe or a duck getting run over by a semi.
Very cool. Possum jammed as usual.
Sanity! Now I know why everyone on the East Coast was so excited
about this tune. It's really cool!!!! Wilson was absolutely ON! They
switched into the high geras of their souls and kicked some serious butt!
Jeff thought that My Sweet One went too fast, But I liked it. BTW, I Didn't
Know was pretty quick, also. Mike's Groove. Wow. Hectic. Ouch. Freeeeow!
The lights were completely intense on Mike's Song. I was in the balcony,
and I took a look down at Chris while he was working the strobes, and he was
jamming almost as hard as the band was!!! The lights created the effect of
small explosions and implosions of the band--it made them look bigger and
smaller. In IAH, Trey and Mike laid on their backs and did stuph with their
feet. First, they tapped in rhythm, and in unison, with their feet in the
air, then they started to pedal with their hats on their feet. BTW, Mike had
two hats on, one of which eventually found its way to Trey. Also, we caught
Mike actually smiling while he was playing. heh, heh. Lizards was great.
Llama rocked hard, kind of a motif of the second set. Terrapin with the
vacuum was supremely excellent! I love that tune! Lawn Boy was a neat,
smooth, lead-in to Good Times, Bad Times, which effectively blew Jimmy Page
into his guitar grave. This tune kicked ass!!!!!!

Now its hello time to Mike Caplan and Mike powers, who we met at the shows,
Hi! Also a hello to my uncle, who turned up at the show (rather unexpectedly)
and had a jamming time (the Madison show, that is).
We taped both shows, and they came out just beautifully!! Very crispy.
For those interested, the equipment we used was a TEAC W-450r tape deck,
recording with HX-Pro, and two EV omni-directional mics boomed out from the
balcony about 30 feet apart at Madison, and 40 feet at Milwaukee.
If yer interested, please email me, and we can set something up.
That's all for now, pholks!

                Phish On!!!

Like we didn't write enough in the other post! However, I remembered one
moe Trey and Mike stage antic that was particularly cool. I don't
remember what song it was, but Trey climbed on top of his effects boxes and
jammed there for a while, and Mike splayed his legs out between Fish's drum
stage thing and the top of his bass amp stack. They held this for a while,
and did some variations on it while getting to their respective positions.
OK, enough about the two shows. I hope everyone at Chicago had an amazing
time like we managed to have.

                        Phish On!!!

                                        ---Andy *:)

ps. I gave Page a tape with the new Michelle Shocked album--"Arkansas
Traveler"--and a Johnnie Johnson album on it before the show in Milwaukee.
He was really psyched!! Made me very, very happy too. :) :) :)
