Ok, here's my 2 cents about Delaware from a non-first timer:

Can't add anything to the setlist except that there was no Sweet Adeline
and Cavern closed set II. Oh, and, Runaway Jim was the set II opener.

Now, for the review,
Got to the show at about 8:15 ticketless. Got tickets for 8th row Fish's
side, right below the speakers from the box office!! :-). Waited in line
for about a half hour to get in. It seems that security only opened two
doors and proceed to frisk and check everybody with metal detectors (as if
we had guns or something!!!). Luckily, the band was a little late going
on...

Set I was good, even though Page was a little low in the mix. I'm psyched
that I got to see my first David Bowie (in show 10 dating back to 1990; I
thought I was cursed). Bowie was awsome, as expected, but I think it
lacked a little from what I've heard on tape. I think that this song
belongs in the set closing rather than opening slot. Great jams in Maze
and Stash. Just one question: during It's Ice, the band stopped in the
middle and Trey walked over to Mike and I think they started playing each
other's instruments with the necks of their own instruments. At least
that's what it looked like to me. Anyway, there were some very strange
sounds at this point. Does anyone know what this is all about? I've
never seen it before.

Set II was much better. Lizards was awesome (I just love this song) as
was Runaway Jim. Wilson had the "doh!" signal, the circus signal, and one
more signal which I forget right now. The singalong Lengthwise was
hilarious because the three drunk guys behind me were shouting the lyrics
during Fish's solo long after everyone else had stopped singing. Fish
looked up and acknowledged (sp?) them when he was done. He then ran to
the front of the stage waving his arms wildly shouting "I love you all."
Squriming Coil was truly magnificent. I'm convinced that the piano is
definitely a good thing :-). One more thing, I just want to mention that
the You Enjoy Myself was the best version of that song that I've heard in
a loooooooong time. Truly awesome.

Random notes. Security SUCKED!!!! Let me shout that a little louder:

SECURITY SUCKED!!!!!!!

The security was a couple of UDel power-tripping rent-a-cops in charge of
(I assume) volunteering power-tripping muscleheaded football player types
(I'm sorry if I offended any of you 5'8" 145 lb peace loving linebackers
out there). The result was no smoking of anything anywhere, PERIOD.
People were getting thrown out for smoking cigs. I can't imagine what
they did to people who were doing anything illegal. By far the worst
security I've ever seen.

That's all for now,
jb

Here's a partial set list. The first set is pretty much in order, the
second no where near it.

1st set:
David Bowie
Bouncing
Poor Heart
It's Ice
Glide
Rift (jammin')
Lawn Boy ("just for you, Delaware...:-)
Stash
Maze
Golgi Apparatus

2nd set:
Runaway Jim (I don't think this was the opener)
Maze
Sweet Adeline (I think...I haven't heard it before)
Tweezer (awesome)
YEM (beyond incredible)
Lengthwise + really weird vacuum thing. No scat, just long drawn out
sucking noises. Sounds much better with Honey Love...but still
fun. We love Tubbs, and he loves us too (he said so!)
Big Ball Jam w/human Basketball hoops (audience scored twice!)
Hyper LLAMA! Have these guys been listening to SOD lately?...God
forbid...
Squirming Coil. Great Piano ending. Nice one Page!
Something really awesome that I'm forgetting...damn. Too much dancing...

Encore:
Amazing Grace
Tweezer Reprise(yay!)

My perspective (like anyone really cares...):

Well, it was my first show. And aside from having the show start
way too late, having security way too annoying at the entrance, and having
to see a woman that I ***really*** didn't want to talk to at all, I had an
incredible time.

Brief nitpicks: Page was drowned out for the first set. Great
in the second set. Guess Paul tweaked the sound a little. The band was
super tight, and the jams on YEM and Tweezer were stellar. Better than
*anything* I've ever heard. Wish you were there... It really seemed like
a Trey show. Maybe it was because I was drum side and caught a lot of the
guitar in the PA, but Mike and Page seemed a little in the background.
Case in point, LLAMA! Holy guacamole! I couldn't even dance to it, it
was so fast. Phew. I had so much to tell everybody, but I'm so tired,
and I'm sure somebody else'll do a much better job than me, so I'm outta
here.

One more thing: maybe it was because it was my first show, or
maybe it was because I had *so* much fun, or maybe it was because the
playing was *so* incredible that I...don't want a tape. If you weren't
there, get a copy immediately, but I don't really want one. It felt kinda
special being there. I think it'd lose some of that if I had it on my
stereo. When the tree pops up,...I think I'll pass. I don't want to
spoil the experience. Anybody else have a similar experience with their
first show? Feels kinda weird, but, hey, I'm weird anyway....:-)

Summary: a fun night was had by all.

Peace,
        Matt

My first show last night too. I'm sold.
I agree - the piano was two low in the mix for me, and from
some tapes I have I know this dude can *play*...
For me, they never quite reached the level in the 2nd set that
they did in the 1st. As a criticism I'd say that they over use the
idea of "we go up the fret board, we go down the fret board", making
some of the "jams" predictable for me. But, the guitar playing in
terms of emotional output and energy was awesome - for me, like Garcia
on a really hot "Deal". (I consider these guys a cross between the
Dead and Frank Zappa.) The David Bowie opener smoked! Dug the
vaccuum cleaner, and dug the "audience participation" gags (but if
these guys didn't have chops, the gimicks could be annoying).
The vibe inside was real familar - the DH "torch" could
definately be passed to these guys. 'Course the first thing I wanted
when the show was over was an "ice cold import" and a "veggie
burrito". You can take the boy off the farm...
Sorry if I made any faux pas, my first post, my first show,
hey, I want tapes! 8-)

This was an OK show, but nowhere near as good as the night before,
in Poughkeepsie. The Bowie opener was HOT, but the first set dragged in
many places, and was chock full of repeats from the night before (Poor
Heart, Maze, Golgi).
The second set was a different story. Runaway Jim, Wilson, and
Uncle Penn to open were all great. YEM was another repeat, and I wanted
Uncle Penn to open were all great. YEM was another repeat, and I wanted
Uncle Penn to open were all great. YEM was another repeat, and I wanted
Mike's Song, but it turned out good as always. Lengthwise was only
Fishman as the rest of the ban left the stage (thus the * in the setlist)
Squirming Coil sounded great on Page's new piano, and Cavern ripped.
Amazing Grace was killer as well, but I'm no Tweezer Reprise fan. Why
encore with that?
While the show had its merits, the arena did not. The sound was
miserable to mediocre, depending on where you sat; the security was very
harsh on any form of mildly illegal activity, and you had to be checked
by a metal detector as you entered, creating a logjam at the doors. How
unnecessary is a metal detector at a Phish show? Some of the U of D
students were kind of annoying, too, but there are annoying people at
any show, so I shouldn't just criticize them. All things reconsidered,
a decent show.
